What each product is for
OptionStrat is the tool you open while you are still choosing strikes. The builder covers more than 50 templates, including covered calls and multi-expiration structures such as double diagonals. Members on Live Tools get live prices, chance of profit, net Greeks, IV history, and commissions in the calculation. Live Flow adds the options tape, saved filters, and alerts on that tape. Free accounts see delayed data.
Vega trader starts when the trade exists. You log the legs, including later rolls, and the journal keeps that position together. The trade page shows current P/L, break-even points, and Delta, Gamma, Theta, and Vega. Real-time quotes are on Essential. On the Free plan the quotes on a trade are delayed. The public calculator is open without an account and shows the payoff, the break-evens, and the probability of profit for the legs you build. It does not search the chain for a better structure. That search is the OptionStrat optimizer.
Where the records differ
A saved OptionStrat strategy is a diagram you can revisit. The historical high and low of a saved strategy is a Live Tools feature. Closed-trade win rate, average profit, average loss, and expectancy are journal stats. Vega trader reads those from the trades you mark finished, and it can group them by strategy or by account on Essential.
Vega AI answers questions about that journal, in the app and from Cursor, Claude, or another MCP client. It can create a price alert from the conversation. It does not send an order. OptionStrat also leaves the order at your broker.
Which one to open
Use OptionStrat when the next step is a search: a target price, a target expiration, and a ranking of structures by return or by chance of profit. Use it when the options tape is part of the decision. The Live Flow plan is $99.99 a month. Live Tools is $39.99 a month. Confirm both on the OptionStrat membership page before you pay.
Use Vega trader when the trade is already on, or when you want last month’s condors in one place. The expiration calendar, price alerts, and the performance dashboard sit on the same record as the payoff. The Free plan includes the trade manager, the expiration calendar, dashboard analytics, and Vega AI on DeepSeek. Essential adds strategies, accounts, real-time quotes, price alerts, and Vega AI on Gemini.
- OptionStrat, when you want the optimizer or the live options tape.
- Vega trader, when you want the opened position, the Greeks, and the closed-trade stats.
- Both, when you design the trade in a visualizer and then log the fill in a journal.
Questions people ask
Is Vega trader an OptionStrat alternative?
For the payoff diagram, yes. The public calculator shows profit and loss, break-even points, and probability of profit without an account. OptionStrat still has the strategy optimizer and the options-flow feed, which Vega trader does not include.
Does OptionStrat track a trade after you close it?
OptionStrat saves strategy diagrams and, on a paid plan, the high and low of those saved strategies. Win rate, expectancy, and a history of rolls live in a journal. That journal is what Vega trader keeps.
Do either of these products send orders to a broker?
No. OptionStrat and Vega trader both leave the order at your broker. Vega trader records the legs you enter. It does not see your buying power and it does not place trades.
